What is Botox Injectable?
Botox Injectable is a purified non-animal protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When expertly injected into selected face and neck muscles, it can induce a temporary relaxation of the muscle, which may help soften unattractive animation lines and may minimize the depressive or “pulled-down” effect of some strong muscles that can negatively affect the vertical position of soft tissue of the brow, cheek and jowl line.
Botox Injectable must be administered by a healthcare professional.
Who is a candidate for Botox Injectable?
Individuals with dynamic expression lines that they find unattractive are excellent candidates for Botox Injectable. The use of very small amounts of Botox Injectable into undesirable animation lines and the muscles underneath them can soften the lines, affecting positively what kind of impression and expression that you project externally and soft tissue smoothening of the skin can occur. Depending on the muscles that are injected, the muscles that pull down various areas of the face can be relaxed, allowing the elevator muscles to work without competition and provide a tonic elevation of the brow, cheek, jowl line and neck. It can also be used to modify sweating under the arms and is frequently used to reduce sweating in the armpit region, palms of the hands, soles of the feet and hairline region.
How long does Botox Injectable take to work?
Once it is administered, it takes approximately three hours to get down to the underlying intended muscles, where it will begin to work its way painlessly into the motor nerve end plate responsible for contraction of that localized, targeted muscle. Botox Injectable blocks release of a small chemical from the nerve end plate serving the targeted and intended muscle of treatment. This chemical is called acetylcholine, which is necessary for the muscle to contract once you consciously or subconsciously desire to activate the muscle. It takes three hours to bind to its specific receptors on the muscle and you start to see weakening of the expressive ability of that muscle after three days. The full effect of the Botox Injectable Injection occurs up to six days and most patients begin to see a very significant softening and smoothing of their undesirable lines and wrinkles and significant elevation of the overlying soft tissue.
How long does Botox Injectable last?
Generally, significant wrinkle smoothening and reduction will last for three to four months. Most Botox Injectable begins to wear off by the 4th or 5th month. Patients generally return for a repeat treatment between 4 and 6 months, or 2-3 times per year. Lower concentrations will have less longevity. Some areas, such as Botox Injectable for the softening of upper lip lines and other delicate regions of facial animation, may require smaller injections of Botox Injectable treatment more frequently, such as every two to three months.
What happens during a Botox Injectable treatment?
Botox Injectable is injected around deep expression lines of the forehead and bridge of nose, crows feet, lip lines or droopy brows, cheeks, corner of the mouth, or neck that are caused by overactive muscles of expression and those muscles that pull down the face, also known as facial depressors. The treatment takes about 15 – 30 minutes to perform. Botox injections can be performed with topical anesthetic cream to reduce the mild skin discomfort of the procedure. Most clients return to work immediately after treatment with little to no discoloration or only slight bruising, that will disappear quickly and can be camouflaged with make-up. The muscle is relaxed over a period of several days and the expression lines soften dramatically, becoming less noticeable. The Botox Injectable “lift effect” of the brow, cheek, nose, jawline and/or neck will also occur over several days.
